Matthew P. Brown, CFP®
Vice-President
Financial Planning
In July of 1996, shortly after his collegiate studies, Matt joined Mascagni & Company, Inc. as a financial planning advisor. He was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, an active member of FBC, Jackson, and very involved through multiple levels in the sport of soccer. His education took him to Mississippi College in 1992, from which he graduated with honors in 1996, receiving his B.S. in Business Administration. At his graduation, Matt also was awarded The Wall Street Journal Award from the MC School of Business, as well as The Norman E. O'Neal Religious Education Award in his area of minor studies.
Since joining the firm, Matt became NASD Series 7 and Series 63 licensed in January of 1997, and continued correspondence studies through the College of Financial Planning based out of Denver, Colorado. In April of 1999 he graduated from the college and went on to successfully earn the designation of Certified Financial Planner in January of 2000 from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.
Serving as a direct support to Randy in servicing the firm's clients from day to day, Matt provides a continual communication link for helping provide timely advice. He also oversees and administers the firm's computer systems and client database to secure and maintain accurate data. In addition to this, he is often the source behind writing comprehensive client financial plans, which include a range of generating analysis, to comparison of different retirement scenarios, to determining estate planning needs, to detailed review of investments. And he also is a primary contact for business retirement plans, such as SIMPLE-IRAs and 401(k) plans.
Matt is married to the former Paula Barkley of Meridian, who is also a 1996 graduate of Mississippi College. The Browns currently live in Clinton with a 22-month old daughter, Peyton, and a baby brother on the way (due to arrive in a few weeks). The family attends Morrison Heights Church, where Matt serves as chair of the leadership team for Crown Financial Ministries. He is also currently involved in several other areas including serving as a deacon, on the Personnel committee, the 50th Anniversary committee, and on a sub-study group that is reviewing the church's current policies handbook. Away from the office and church, he enjoys spending time with family and also outdoors (specifically fishing, hunting and photography). Other interests or hobbies include the M2M men's accountability group which meets weekly, cycling, and limited involvement in officiating soccer at the collegiate level through a local NISOA chapter.
Overall, Matt says the reason he enjoys his career is two-fold. First is the ability to help others. Whether this is to reach specific financial goals, to prepare for retirement, to provide for their families, or any other reason, it is simply a key part of what he enjoys. Second, he enjoys the continual challenge of preparing comprehensive and personal financial plans, which change with every client. "Each and every client has their own set of needs and goals, and we get to work as a team, many times with other professionals, to help them plan the best way to reach those goals. The challenge this often entails can be exciting, especially after you see others begin to reach the goals they initially set."
